Bike Fitting
Bike fitting has been shown to have a marked effect on the body during cycling. Our fitting system, developed by Dr. Warfel, fits the bike to the body, but also considers how the body fits the bike.
Beginning with the bike, there are specific measurements to be done on the saddle, bars, grips, shifters, brakes, and sometimes even suspension to get the perfect fit. We don’t like to rely on measurement alone, so we perform strength and respiratory tests during the bike fit to confirm these measurements are right for every individual. Our process will tailor fit your bike to your body. The combination of the automatic core engagement and diaphragmatic excursion tests enables us to fit for maximal efficiency in pedaling and breathing, a perfect combination for optimizing comfort and performance.
Fitting the bike to the body is the easy part, fitting the body to the bike can be more challenging. Orthopedic asymmetries in the legs such as a weaker or stiffer hip, knee, or ankle, can create differences in the quality of each pedal stroke, or place more work load on one leg than the other. Torsions in the sacrum and pelvis, or mechanical stiffness in the spine can create asymmetrical weight bearing on the saddle, leading to common issues such as saddle sores, back pain, leg pain, and ultimately decreased efficiency. Many of these problems exist on individuals that have no pain. Through our systemic physical therapy screen we can treat these issues during the fit, assuring the body and bike work in harmony.
With 15 years of expert mountain bike racing experience, Dr. Warfel has become a student of cycling technique. Via video analysis and visual evaluation, your pedaling technique will be critiqued at various workloads. Based on deficiencies in form, we will construct a specific exercise program as well as tips to use while riding designed to increase efficiency, which means riding faster, stronger, and with increased balance. We empower you to live your best life on every ride.
